LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Jan. 25, 2022) – The second edition of the “Hot Shoe” Hall of Fame Motorcycle Industry Celebration takes place this Saturday, Jan. 29) gala at Las Vegas’ Notoriety Theatre in the Neonopolis portion of the Las Vegas Fremont Street Experience (450 E. Fremont St., 3rd Floor) with motorcycle legends from around the world participating in the free event from 6 – 10 p.m. PST.
The inaugural spectacular took place last May with some 900 attendees celebrating the motorcycle industry with many of the world’s top motorcycle racers and influencers honored for the class of 2022 in “Hot Shoe” Hall of Fame Museum at the Gene Woods Racing Experience at Fremont Street.
Last May, the legendary Kenny Roberts was awarded with the “Hot Shoe” Lifetime Achievement Award, while many famed motorcycle competitors, such as Roberts, Bubba Shobert, Brad Lackey, Mike Bast, John DeSoto, Jim Fishback and Sue Fish, chatted with many guests in a huge night of historic “bench racing.”
Another large gathering is expected this Saturday with over 80 motorcycle legends and two-wheel icons being honored for their contributions to the industry as they are inducted to the “Hot Shoe” Hall of Fame.
Established by three-time U.S. Open National Speedway champion Woods and an outstanding Board of Directors, the “Hot Shoe” Hall of Fame Museum was founded in 2020 to pay homage to the daredevil racers and their colorful careers and achievements as well as motorcycle industry leaders and icons.
The “Hot Shoe” is the symbol that recognizes the cream of the crop of motorcycle racing stars who used a very specialized tool, the steel shoe, to assist them in navigating the dirt track corners at very high rates of speed. Steel show equipped riders quickly became known as “Hot Shoes” in local and national events and markets where they competed.
As part of Saturday’s extravaganza, the highly acclaimed feature film by director Peter Starr, “Take It To The Limit,” will be shown to attendees at the Notoriety Theatre to highlight several of the “Hot Shoe” Hall of Fame inductees featured in the movie.
“We expect another great crowd this Saturday in our second annual ‘Hot Shoe’ Hall of Fame’ event,” said Woods. “Last May was a tremendous turnout for our inaugural event and word of mouth has been outstanding as we prepare for the second version. We were excited with the level of acceptance and participation we are saw in May and the celebration brought together many of the greatest motorcycle racers and industry leaders of our sport. We will have a great display of motorcycle machinery at the event sponsored by Cycle News.”
The Cycle News historic racing motorcycle display also will be at Saturday’s event as the “Hot Shoe” Hall of Fame event ties in with the annual Mecum Motorcycle Auction at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Located on the Fabulous Fremont Street in Las Vegas, the “Hot Shoe” Hall of Fame is part of the Las Vegas Fremont Experience and adjacent to the Gene Woods Racing Experience Indoor Electric Race Car Track (450 E.Fremont St., #171, Las Vegas). For those accepted into the Hall of Fame, the honorees’ “Hot Shoe” is mounted on a Hall of Fame plaque. Recipients also receive their own version 8x10 plaque.
“Gene and ‘Hot Shoe’ Hall of Fame put on a great event,” said Roberts. “It was fun to talk with all of the old racers and bring up the past stories at the tracks. You don’t get a chance to go back and talk with the racers like we did.”
“Last year’s event was something magical for me,” said Fishback, a former motorcycle star in desert, motocross and speedway racing. “If there is one wish, it would be to revisit the best times of your life. Gene granted me and many others that very wish. I went back to being an eight-year-old kid watching Sammy Tanner riding the Ascot half mile. Gene couldn’t really take me back to those days, but what he did was brought us all together so we could meet each other again some 50 years later. The night was one I will never forget. Thank you, Gene and the ‘Hot Shoe’ Hall of Fame!”
