By the age of 12, Kirk’s interest shifted from go-karts to motorcycles and he began racing motocross and enduro. By the time he was 16, he moved to flat track and continued to race motorcycles until he was 20. During this period, he became close friends with racing legend and flat track mentor Bubba Shobert, also a Lubbock, TX native. They remained good friends until Kirk’s death in 2002.
