After the 2021 Grand Opening Event, the Hot Shoe Hall of Fame Continues its Salute to the Motorcycle Industry as well as Peter Starr's “Take It To The Limit” Feature
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Oct. 6, 2021) – One of the biggest events celebrating the motorcycle industry returns to Las Vegas on Saturday, Jan. 29, as many of the world's top motorcycle racers and influencers will be honored in the second annual Hot Shoe Hall of Fame Museum spectacular at the Gene Woods Racing Experience at Fremont Street.
Last May, some 900 people attended the Grand Opening of the Hot Shoe Hall of Fame with a gala at Las Vegas' Notoriety Theatre in the Neonopolis portion of the Las Vegas Fremont Street Experience (450 E. Fremont St., 3rd Floor). Motorcycle legends from around the world were presented with their “Hot Shoe Hall of Fame” plaques and many were interviewed on stage to talk about their motorcycle experiences.
The legendary Kenny Roberts was awarded with the Hot Shoe Lifetime Achievement Award, while many famed motorcycle competitors, such as Roberts, Bubba Shobert, Brad Lackey, Mike Bast, John DeSoto, Jim Fishback and Sue Fish, chatted with many guests in a huge night of historic “bench racing.”
Established by three-time U.S. Open National Speedway champion Woods and a superb Board of Directors, the Hot Shoe Hall of Fame Museum was founded in 2020 to pay homage to the daredevil racers and their colorful careers and achievements as well as motorcycle industry leaders and icons.
The Hot Shoe is the symbol that recognizes the cream of the crop of motorcycle racing stars who used a very specialized tool, the steel shoe, to assist them in navigating the dirt track corners at very high rates of speed. Steel show equipped riders quickly became known as Hot Shoes in local and national events and markets where they competed.
In addition, the highly acclaimed feature film by director Peter Starr, “Take It To The Limit,” will be shown to attendees at the Notoriety Theatre on Jan. 29 to highlight several of the Hot Shoe Hall of Fame inductees featured in the movie. “We were very pleased with the great event last May for the Grand Opening of the Hot Shoe Hall of Fame and the 50th anniversary of the famed 'On Any Sunday' movie,” said Woods. “The turnout was outstanding, and it was so much fun to see the racers telling old stories.
“We were excited with the level of acceptance and participation we are saw at our inaugural event,” said Woods. “The celebration brought together many of the greatest motorcycle racers and industry leaders of our sport. We will have a great display of motorcycle machinery at the event sponsored by Cycle News.”
The Cycle News historic racing motorcycle display also will be at the Jan. 29 event as the Hot Shoe Hall of Fame event ties in with the annual Mecum Motorcycle Auction at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Located on the Fabulous Fremont Street in Las Vegas, the Hot Shoe Hall of Fame is part of the Las Vegas Fremont Experience and adjacent to the Gene Woods Racing Experience Indoor Electric Race Car Track (450 E.Fremont St., #171, Las Vegas). For those accepted into the Hall of Fame, the honorees' Hot Shoe is mounted on a Hall of Fame plaque. Recipients also receive their own version 8x10 plaque.
“Gene and Hot Shoe Hall of Fame put on a great event,” said Roberts. “It was fun to talk with all of the old racers and bring up the past stories at the tracks. You don't get a chance to go back and talk with the racers like we did.”
“The event was something magical for me,” said Fishback, a former motorcycle star in desert, motocross and speedway racing. “If there is one wish, it would be to revisit the best times of your life. Gene granted me and many others that very wish. I went back to being an eight-year-old kid watching Sammy Tanner riding the Ascot half mile. Gene couldn't really take me back to those days, but what he did was brought us all together so we could meet each other again some 50 years later. The night was one I will never forget. Thank you, Gene and the Hot Shoe Hall of Fame!”
“I was very impressed with what my friend Gene Woods has done with the Hot Shoe Hall of Fame Museum,” said Bast, the seven-time U.S. National Speedway champion. “Gene and I were teammates and raced against each other in Speedway for some 15 years. It's very exciting to see all of the Hot Shoes on the wall at Gene's karting track on Fremont St. in Las Vegas. The walls are filled with steel shoes of many of the world's greatest riders from Speedway and Flat Track as well as plaques of many of motorcycle racing's icons. A big thank you to Gene and the Hot Shoe Hall of Fame.”
The Jan. 29 Hot Shoe Hall of Fame event begins with the Cycle News motorcycle display at 4 p.m. Doors to the Notoriety Theatre open at 6 p.m. For further information on the Hot Shoe Hall of Fame celebration, visit the website at www.hotshoehof.com or on Facebook at Hot Shoe Hall of Fame.
